What Went Wrong

My favorite song on this album. Most of the lyrics were written on a day trip to Blanco State Park. There were very few people there that day, and the ones I saw were only in passing. Some of the lyrics were from ideas and lyric snippets from past years' attempts at National Solo Album Month. The chorus reflects how some days I wonder what went wrong with my life and other days I don't think things went wrong at all.

Lyrics

I wake up to the first chill of November
and my nose bleeds from the heat
My head spins from a kiss in a dream
I reluctantly pull back the sheets
I wonder what went wrong
I wonder what went wrong

I'm driving around the rich part of town
looking at the million dollar homes
I'm not really wishing 'cause I can't find the sense
in having more space than I can fill alone
I wonder what went wrong
I wonder what went wrong

I'm sitting on the bank of the Blanco River
listening to Counting Crows
Margery's dreaming of horses again
Man, this stuff never gets old
I wonder if it really went wrong
I wonder if it really went wrong

I hear wheels on the gravel and I feel the fear
but the truck driver cowboy waves hello
Not a cloud in the heavens where it was gray before
I feel the itch of the scars from a hurt long ago
I wonder what went wrong
I wonder what went wrong

A whirlwind of midges hovers near my head
like a snow flurry in the sun
The grain on the picnic table looks like the ripples
on the water through the trees as the breeze fills my lungs
I wonder if it really went wrong
I wonder if it really went wrong

I wonder if it really went wrong
I wonder if it really went wrong

I'm sitting on the bank of the Blanco River
