Lyrics

There’s a spring locked in a cage
A small spout sets her free
Legend says de Soto drank there
And hung a man in a tree

In the 40s, there were murders
Young lovers in the park
A hooded, phantom figure
The Rangers never caught

At the lake with the leaning tree

We know Izzy loves Matt
Because it’s carved in the pier
There are red-winged blackbirds
It’s a frisky duck frontier

At the lake with the leaning tree

They say an evil scientist
Performs experiments on the ducks
Now some of them look like turkeys
But I really just made this up

Monkey bars on the lakeside
And swings where the girlfriends play
Under pine-filtered sunlight
I saw a fisherman’s daughter with beads in her braids

At the lake with the leaning tree

We know Izzy loves Matt
Because it’s carved in the pier
There are red-winged blackbirds
It’s a turtle head frontier

At the lake with the leaning tree
