Count the Sunrises

Count the Sunrises was inspired by two sunrises I witnessed over the Gulf of Mexico. The first was in Port Aransas in college on a weekend trip with a couple of girls from my dormitory. We slept on the beach and met a few strangers. The second was in Corpus Christi when I went for a conference for work. I got up extra early so I could sit on the sea wall and watch the sunrise. How many sunrises have you seen over the water?

Lyrics

A circle in the sand
On a Port Aransas' night
A dark breeze brings a chill
but the fire's warm and bright

Can you count the sunrises
that you've seen on the water?
Will you count any more?
Have you shared the sight
with a stranger who you met last night?
Will you share any more?

In a gazebo looking east
Over Corpus Christi Bay
The oil rigs' silhouettes
against white on orange rays

Can you count the sunrises
that you've seen on the water?
Will you count any more?
Have you shared the sight
with a stranger who you met last night?
Will you share any more?
